Ambler Arboretum BioBlitz will take place in a 25-acre region of meadows, forest and creeks to the rear of campus. Base Camp will be located in the Learning Center Lobby.
Transportation and Parking:
All BioBlitz participants may park in the Learning Center Parking Lot.
If taking the train, shuttle service is available to and from the Ambler Train Station and Ambler Campus (Friday only). View the schedule online.
Preparation before arriving:
If you haven’t already done so, please register for the event online at ambler.temple.edu/BioBlitz.
Bring a camera to record your findings.
Bring binoculars if you have them available.
Bring bug spray.
Exploring is a hungry business. Bring snacks!
If you are planning to stay during the evening hours, bring a flashlight or headlamp. Red light is best as it doesn’t disturb wildlife.
Don’t forget, BioBlitz is a rain or shine event, so plan and dress appropriately!
At BioBlitz, you will be out among the trees and meadows and possibly in the creeks. Wear clothes and footwear appropriate for getting hands-on with citizen science!
Wear a baseball cap — when looking anywhere toward the sun, they are a huge help.
While the weather is expected to be warm, bring along a jacket or additional warm clothing — it can get a lot cooler under the canopy of trees. Dress in layers for the weather.
Think green — bring a reusable water bottle!
BioBlitz is open to everyone! Bring family and friends along to join in the fun!
If bringing children or minors to the event, please ensure that they are accompanied by an adult on the trail system at all times.
When you arrive:
BioBlitz Base Camp is located near the trail system. Please be sure to register at Base Camp when you arrive.
Base Camp will include dozens of field guides, microscopes and more to help you identify the plants, trees, mammals, birds, insects, fungi and more that you discover during BioBlitz.
Data gathering material will be provided to you when you arrive at Base Camp.
Information tents will be located at both ends of the primary trail system if you have questions or need assistance.
Ambler Arboretum Director Kathy Salisbury will officially kick off the BioBlitz at 12 p.m., Saturday, June 23 with “BioBlitz 101” and a Guide to Using Field Guides. The kick-off will begin at Base Camp.
Take a walk on the wild side at BioBlitz and participate on the guided walking tours that will be held throughout the event. Topics include: Birds, Plants, Insects, Mammals, Reptiles and Fungus. View the full schedule at ambler.temple.edu/BioBlitz-Schedule (coming soon!).
Be sure to send photos of your findings to email@example.com!
There will be trash and recycling receptacles located throughout the event. Please think environmentally and keep our campus clean! Discard debris in the proper containers.
You can always come back! BioBlitz is a 24-hour event. Head home for a snack and return to see what night life is stirring on campus!
