Dr. Vicki Lewis McGarvey
Vice Provost for University College
Acting Director, Temple University Ambler
Vicki Lewis McGarvey is the Vice Provost for University College. In this role she oversees all University College units, including the Ambler Campus, Temple University Center City, Temple University Harrisburg, Executive Leadership Education, Non-Credit and Continuing Education, Veteran’s Affairs, Extension Services, On-line Learning and Summer Programs. She directs the ProRanger Program, which is a partnership with the National Park Service. Dr. McGarvey is the university’s designated Single Point of Contact for Pennsylvania Act 48 programming and Temple’s representative to the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities.
She is currently acting as the director of the Ambler Campus.
Most recently Dr. McGarvey served as associate vice president for academic and faculty affairs in the Executive Office of the President from 2006 to 2010. In this role she played a lead role in planning and evaluating academic programs; monitoring accreditation activities; collaborating with administrative units; and advising the president on issues pertaining to faculty recruitment, appointment, promotion and tenure. She previously worked in the Office of the Provost as an associate vice provost where she served as staff to the Council of Deans, coordinated the approval of academic programs for the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees and managed the recruitment of new deans.
Prior to joining Temple University in 2001, Dr. McGarvey held positions in scientific, financial and research administration in the medical schools at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania. She also served as the administrative and financial officer for the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Work.
Dr. McGarvey holds a B.A. in natural sciences and an M.B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and an Ed.D. in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
