Wellness Programs

Recreation, Outdoor Education & Wellness at Temple Amber offers programs that connect participants with our calm, verdant surroundings in many novel ways that can help augment your retreat/teambuilding experiences.

Programs are approximately 60 minutes in length but may be tailored to specific group/team goals.

Contemplative Connections: Forrest Bathing (Shinrin Yoku)

Extensive research suggests that simply immersing oneself under tree canopies can lead to a reduction in symptoms related to stress, anxiety and depression, as well as bring about physiological benefits such as lower blood pressure. This experience will guide participants through a series of invitations to enhance mind-body awareness and nature-connectedness.

Mindful Movement: Fox Walk

This mindful nature walking experience guides individuals to practice walking similarly to a fox. This is an experience where individuals focus on stepping each foot with awareness of self, their environment and their impact on the surrounding environment. Participants are led through various mindfulness techniques to learn how to discreetly navigate through nature. This program may be guided in person at Temple Ambler. Registrants who wish to participate in this activity independently or virtually will be provided with educational materials on how to participate. Mindfulness experiences may aid in decreasing stress levels, promoting positive emotions and developing self-awareness.

Yoga in the Gardens

This mindful form of physical activity is guided by seasoned yoga practitioners. This experience is conducted in-person and located in various locations of the Ambler Arboretum where participants will be provided with materials and instructions on working through various beginner-friendly asanas (yoga postures) and pranayamas (breathing techniques). This program may aid in balancing physical functioning, decreasing stress and promoting overall well-being.

Mindfulness Activities

This program consists of various mindfulness activities that can be conducted in-person at Temple Ambler, online through synchronous zoom meetings, or by provided educational materials. These activities focus on mindfully engaging in a nature-based experience through the senses and the present moment. Activities will vary and may include meditations, mindful observations, and building a connection with the natural environment. Mindfulness experiences may aid in decreasing stress levels, promoting positive emotions, and developing healthy coping skills.

Nature-Based Plant Identification and Scavenger Hunt

This activity may be conducted independently at Temple Ambler. Individuals will be provided with materials to locate and identify various plants, structures and parts of the Ambler Campus. This activity promotes physical activity by having participants engage in movement around campus. These activities also promote emotional well-being by having individuals engage in healthy recreational activities that provide a sense of connection to one’s environment, enhance positive emotions and decrease stress levels.

Labyrinth Self-Discovery and Reflection

This activity may be conducted at Temple Ambler in the Ambler Arboretum. Individuals may be guided through how to use the labyrinth or opt for a self-guided activity where guests are provided with a worksheet on using the labyrinth. This program connects guests to the purpose and benefits of a labyrinth and may aid in self-discovery, reducing stress, practicing self-reflection and calming the mind.
