The safety of our students, faculty and staff is a top priority. The Temple University Police Department is one of the largest police departments in Pennsylvania. The officers attend the Police Academy and are authorized to enforce the law and make arrests similar to any municipal police department. Some of the services provided are crime prevention, uniformed patrol, investigative services, bicycle patrol, and more. Learn more about campus safety at Temple.

Emergency Procedures

Medical Emergency

  • Call 9-1-1 (Dial 9-911 from all University telephones) and provide your location on campus, nature of emergency, name, and telephone number.
  • Immediately call Temple University Police (215-204-1234), confirm that you have called 9-1-1 , and provide your location on campus, nature of emergency, name, and telephone number.

Police Emergency

  • Call Temple University Police (215-204-1234) and provide your location on campus, nature of emergency, name, and telephone number.

Fire Emergency

  • Immediately exit the building and pull the fire alarm as you leave.
  • Call 9-1-1 (Dial 9-911 from all University telephones)
  • Call Temple University Police (215-204-1234), confirm that you have called 9-1-1 , and apprise them of the situation.
  • For all other emergencies, contact Temple University Police at 215-204-1234.

Students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to register with Temple's TU Alert system to receive important announcements via text, email and phone. Temple University Criminal Justice Training Programs

Criminal Justice Training Programs, a division of the Department of Criminal Justice, is an interdisciplinary unit that has conducted training for a variety of criminal justice agencies and occupations since 1968. Each year, more than 3,000 criminal justice professionals attend programs offered by CJTP, including police officers, deputy sheriffs, state constables, legislative security officers, school security officers, and magisterial district court staff. Other activities include criminal justice continuing education programs for agencies allied to the criminal justice system, including public safety, citizen, and community groups. CJTP also is responsible for the development of training curricula for various occupations including distance-learning. CJTP has been involved in the development of “ProRanger Philadelphia,” an academic and technical skills training and paid internship program that is cooperatively administered by the National Park Service and Temple University. Learn more about Temple University Criminal Justice Training Programs.

Emergency Preparedness

Environmental Safety

The Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (EHRS) department ensures the safe use of radioactive materials, radiation-producing equipment, chemicals and biological substances at the university, the hospital and affiliated institutions. Learn more about EHRS.
