Temple University to offer test preparation courses

Temple University's Office of Non-Credit Continuing Education is introducing test preparation courses to prepare students for the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT exams.

The GMAT Prep Course starts Tuesday, March 28 and continues Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m., through Thursday, April 20. The GRE prep course begins Wednesday, March 29, and continues Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 to 9 p.m., through Monday, April 24. The LSAT Prep Course starts Wednesday, April 26, and continues Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 to 9 p.m., through Wednesday, June 7.

Standardized test scores on exams such as the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT are a major component of the graduate school application process, and this new program will assist students in completing the exams with success, according to Rhonda Geyer, Director of Non-Credit Programs in the Office of Non-Credit and Continuing Education.

"The GRE tests critical and analytical reasoning skills through math, verbal, and analytical writing sections and is used for admission to a variety of fields of study.  The GMAT is used by business and economics programs to determine a student's likelihood of success in advanced business and related fields of study," she said. "All Law Schools accredited by the American Bar Association require the LSAT as part of their admissions process. Preparation programs for each test will cover the skills and tools needed to succeed on these important exams."

The Temple Test Treparation courses are designed by a team of exam question writers and test preparation experts. according to Geyer.

"Experienced instructors will provide the comprehensive program in an easy to follow format," she said. "The courses include classroom instruction, preparation materials, practice test opportunities, computer-adaptive software, and access to the instructors beyond the classroom experience."

The courses were developed by Educational Testing Consultants, which focuses of helping colleges and universities prepare students for success on entrance exams. Dr. Stephen Harris and Steven Shotts, co-founders of Educational Testing Consultants, have more than 30 years of experience working with standardized tests, including writing actual test items for a variety of standardized tests.
