As the fall semester gets underway, the campus community will discover several changes to Temple Ambler offices and facilities.

In an effort to provide the greatest convenience for students, faculty and staff, Temple Ambler departments have been on the move this summer.

Looking for the office of the Executive Director? The Arboretum Director's office? The Office of Student Life? Look no further than West Hall.

Both wings on the first floor of West Hall are now the home to all campus administrative staff. Joining existing departments such as Advising and Career Development, Registration and Academic Services are the Office of the Executive Director, the Ambler Arboretum, Marketing and Public Relations, Content Management, Finance and Operations, and Development and Alumni Affairs.

Additionally, the Director of Student and Academic Services is joining fellow administrators in the F-wing of West Hall while the Office of Student Life moves from Bright Hall to West Hall Room 108 and the Scheduling office moves to West Hall from Widener Hall.

"This is part of a project to consolidate the administrative staff in West Hall so that we may offer better and more efficient service to our students, faculty and parents," said Dr. Vicki Lewis McGarvey, Vice Provost for University College and Executive Director of Temple University Ambler. "It will also open up spaces in other buildings that may be repurposed for academic and research uses."

McGarvey said while the campus community has always worked in close coordination to provide the best service and educational experience for our students, "I think the changes we've implemented and are continuing to implement will inspire greater collaboration across departments."

On September 7, the Office of Non-Credit and Continuing Education will also move from Widener Hall to West Hall rooms 104 and 105. The Widener Faculty Office has also to West Hall Room 109, paving the way for the Temple University Infant and Child Lab to move from Haines House to Widener Hall, increasing the lab's facility space substantially.

Criminal Justice Training Programs (CJTP) at Temple Ambler have also moved their offices to the second floor of West Hall. More than 3,000 criminal justice professionals attend programs offered by CJTP each year. CJTP also offers the Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program (SLETP) at Temple Ambler, a key component of ProRanger Philadelphia, a partnership between Temple University and the National Park Service to train park rangers.

"The Ambler Campus is the perfect location to train future members of law enforcement. It is an open campus with diverse environments, allowing us to simulate a wide variety of scenarios that an officer or park ranger might face in their profession," said Anthony Luongo, Director of Temple's Criminal Justice Training Programs and Associate Director of the ProRanger Philadelphia Program. "We have this big, open campus to work with and facilities for physical training. We also have dedicated classroom space. I don't think we could do what we do and offer the comprehensive training that we offer without the Ambler Campus."

While Facilities Management moves to their new location in the former campus Administration Building, the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture will also gain new spaces in Bright Hall, with new faculty offices and a new studio in Bright Hall Room 106. These spaces join the new design-build studio opened for the department during the spring semester, which provides a central location within which to plan and build Temple's annual Philadelphia Flower Show exhibits.

"It makes coordinating the work that needs to go into completing the exhibit much more convenient. I think in years past, sometimes teams weren't sure what other teams were working on at any given time," said Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture Rob Kuper, one of the coordinators of Temple's Flower Show exhibits. "Now, for the most part, we're all together and able to collaborate on all aspects of the exhibit. I think it can only improve the teaching experience while also providing the program with greater visibility and a stronger identity and connection with the campus community."

In addition to having a one stop shop for all of their administrative needs this fall, students will also enjoy several parking options.

Parking Lot 1 (formerly the visitor, faculty and staff lot on Meetinghouse Road) will now be available for students in addition to Parking Lot 3 (the large lot on Meetinghouse). Parking Lot 2 (at the Learning Center) will additionally be open to students after 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Faculty, staff and visitors should park in Lot 2 — overflow parking is available in lot 3.

Please note that students must have a red parking hangtag to park in any of the lots on the Ambler Campus. Faculty and staff must have a purple hangtag. Hangtags may be purchased from Academic Services, West Hall Room 102.
